The Creation of Fen Park Friends
It all began in 2003 when a public meeting was advertised in the local paper. About 50 to 60 people were present at the meeting, where we learnt that Lottery money had been allocated for Fen Park and that WDC would like local people to form a committee to put their suggestions and ideas forward. As time went by, more meetings were held to ascertain what people’s ideas and views were for the park and to channel this into future planning. Many people faded away and went to ground, which was a shame as this left only about a dozen or so determined people. In 2006 we became Fen Park Friends, a constituted group. We initially held road shows in the local schools, asking for ideas, collecting and giving out information, showing plans and letting people know who we were and what plans we were hoping to achieve regarding the park. Some of us have completed training in: first aid, how to run groups, how to run a committee, child awareness, how to run an event and food hygiene. Most of the training was done through SAVO and backed by WDC.
